Geraldine Lions Club Information
The Geraldine Lions Club came into being at a formation meeting in November
1966 and was officially chartered in February 1967.
Currently we have 54 members including 6 ladies.
Our current President Val Knowles, was inducted into the chair at the Change of Officers in June 2011 and she is the second lady President we have had.
The club is very involved in the Geraldine community and raises money for distribution by running BBQ's at various functions as well as selling fertiliser and pea straw to gardeners in and around Geraldine and of course the Geraldine Mountain Bike Challenge
Over the last three or four years we have donated between eighteen and twenty three thousand dollars per year to local and international causes.
The 2012 event will be the fourth running of the Mountain Bike Challenge.
Previous events have attracted up to 435 entrants including a good number of family groups out to have fun riding their bikes. Thanks largely to great support from local businesses with sponsorship we have managed to pay good prizes and still make a healthy profit to give away.
We retain some money for ongoing development of our bike tracks in the Orari river bed and the 2011 event surplus went to the Christchurch Earthquake appeal.
The Geraldine and Districts Lioness support us in this and other ventures around town and we are very grateful to them for their help.
